While many athletes started focusing on one sport as children, I didn’t get a chance to touch a tennis racquet until college time. I was very fortunate to be trained as a swimmer when I was young. Later I was actively involved in many sports: table tennis, badminton, basketball and soccer. Although tennis didn’t become my true love until I was in my thirties, it never failed to bring me joy and carry me through many difficult times in life.
Growing up on a famous university campus in Beijing, I have always wanted to be a teacher when I was young. However, life took me to become a business professional. Luckily, I found tennis relatively late in my life and it totally makes sense to me. There is nothing more satisfied now to see my students grow on the court. Yes, instead of teaching engineering, pharmacology or food science, I finally find my dream job: a tennis coach.
I always believe everybody has some talents in different sports and many can play really good tennis. My goal is to help each of my students to find the form actually working for them and share with them my experience if they were going to compete. With a teacher’s heart, I want to help my students not only to become a better player, but also to find the joy of tennis. I usually told myself three words before every single match: respect, aggressive, and tough, simply as “RAT”. I try to pass these spirits to my students: respect their opponents, being physically strong and mentally tough, and enjoy the games!

A lot of parents asked me this question. The answer is really depending on the person. I now have students from 5 years old to fifties. My goal is to help each of my students to reach their "tennis best". As long as they can follow instructions, I think it's a good time to start.
I always insist students should get enough time to play in every lesson. Being said that, I try to control my class to 2 to 4 students. I do give private lessons if requested. Most of my lessons are an hour long and private lessons last half an hour.
I chose Round Rock high school as my main teaching courts. Sometimes when the courts are not available there, I use two parks nearby: Round Rock West Park and Frontier park. Recently, I use Vista Ridge high school on weekends too. To start it, very simple, just show up or bring your kids to see me. I have my lessons every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings; Saturday almost all day, weather permitted.
Very simple, just a suitable tennis racket. For kids, depends on their heights, the racket may range from 19 inches to 25 inches. You could find 26 inches racket but most people choose to jump to the adult standard size, which is 27 inches. When you are getting serious about tennis, I would then recommend tennis shoes, wrist bands, dampeners, and others.
Coach Jerry has tailored tennis lessons to fit my family’s needs. My daughter is a swimmer with a busy schedule. I enjoy taking lessons with my daughter but also want to interact with adult players. My son has ADHD and needs a lot of patience and encouragement. My husband is an intuitive player who could benefit from clinics. Coach Jerry has made it possible by offering flexible schedule, a mix of family private lessons and age group lessons, and a methodical coaching style based on students’ strengths and passion. Tennis is now a family sports that we play on weekends and during vacations. I want to thank Coach Jerry for making tennis learning a fun and engaging experience for my family.
Jerry C. is my eight-year-old son Lucas' first tennis coach. In about seven months, Lucas has learned basic tennis skills such as forehand, backhand, slice, and serve. The coach said Lucas might be able to participate in some competition in less than a year. Through Coach Jerry, Lucas started to know and fell in love with tennis. No matter how cold or hot the weather is, he is willing to go to the tennis court, and practiced on the court for half a day without getting tired. I'm grateful to Coach Jerry for making Lucas so passionate about this sport. I think this passion comes from Coach Jerry's natural love for tennis and teaching. Coach Jerry is very approachable to students, patient in teaching, and generous to all. He often lends tennis practice equipment such as ball machines, tools etc. to students for free. Therefore, a coach who can help children get to know tennis and truly enjoy playing is the reason that I recommend him
Coach Jerry is our family tennis coach. He teaches my daughter and me. We have been working with him for more than half a year. He is an amazing teacher with an enthusiasm for teaching tennis. He uses different approaches when teaching adults and kids. A few examples are Coach Jerry uses fun and interactive games to teach my daughter, so she is excited to attend his class. She is passionate about playing tennis with other friends and family all the time. When teaching me, Jerry is very patient, he shows me step by step movements that I can easily follow, and he always repeats the movements that he taught last week in a humorous way. He is quite generous. He gave us a lot of tennis equipment like tennis dampeners, tennis rackets, and even helped us buy the top-tier tennis balls deal at Costco. Overall, we would highly recommend Coach Jerry for all age groups.
